By default Netscape comes with JDK 1.0.2 support. There are patches (or full
install for Linux) with JDK 1.1, although they are only for Netscape 4.0x. It is
possible to run JDK 1.1 applets within Netscape 3.X if you use the Java plug-in
(formerly Java Activator) from JavaSoft. The same procedure can be used for MIE
and other version of Netscape.
