For most folks who ask this, the standard answer is some combination of: (i) read the faq (ii) wait and bear it in silence (iii) #$@!!#$ In your case though, perhaps we could synergistically act to expedite things? I think it's great that senior folks within Sun, such as yourself, are interested in moving Java/Linux along. Recently, a member of the Blackdown team (Steve Byrne) informed us all that: > We're not legally allowed to put out pre-release versions if they haven't > passed through JCK. We're in the process of trying to chase down some issues > with running the JCK. > > > The page also says, "Before we can release, we have to make sure that it > > passes the tests in the Java Compatibility Kit." However, maybe there's a way that Sun can expedite this process for the Blackdown folks, or at least allow a controlled prerelease that lightens the impact of these "dreaded sections"? Do you think you could lend a hand here Jim? Or is this (probably) in the hands of some "dreaded lawyers" 8-). On another note, what do you mean by: "get a port of Jini out on Linux early (and often)"? I thought Jini was pure Java, i.e., as soon as there is a compliant JDK2 running on platform of choice, Jini is just a drop in, like JFC, JSDK, or any other pure Java package. Or is there native code in Jini that needs to be ported platform by platform? Thanks, Ron --- Ron Resnick Senior Consulting Engineer DiaLogos Incorporated http://www.dialogosweb.com
