My favourite is NEdit: http://fnpspa.fnal.gov/nirvana/nedit.html
Excellent syntax highlighting for Java and almost any other language out
there, and very easy to use for those coming from a Windows/Mac
background. Its the nicest editor I've seen on Unix.
