This is almost certainly a bug in your X server. An X client should
not be able to crash the X server; if the X server crashes, it is a
bug in the server.

I've had bad luck with the Xi Graphics servers, but maybe they can fix
your problem. Try another server? Maybe XFree86 or the SuSE X servers
support your card.
