Well, I don't know if it was wholly rational or not, but I'd broken
something in my shared libs and needed to reinstall anyway, so . . .  

Really, this is the only app that seems broken so far.  I did recompile
a few other things just to be safe.  At any rate, the "why" is pretty
academic now!

Perhaps the maintainers could compile a version linked against glibc
2.1?
