Blackdown, you guys rock! I downloaded pre-1 and
it looks really good for the most part. I'm running a
stock RedHat 5.2 distribution and most things are
working after I ran the shell script posted to
http://www.blackdown.org/cgi-bin/jdk/incoming?id=424;user=guest;selectid=424
I haven't spent much time on it yet, of course, but here are some
initial observations:
- Seems to be faster than 1.1.7a: I'm running on a P-120
with 24MB RAM. The app I'm working on (551 java
source files totaling 75,000 lines, including comments,
etc.) now runs again, albeit with thrashing. It had
since stopped working all together with 1.1.7. (Hope
my new machine gets here soon. :-)
- RMI seems to have stopped working. I was able, with 1.1.7,
to run the Swing GUI on a NT machine, talking to the
the rest of the java application on Linux via RMI. The
Sun JDK on NT now complains:
java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host...
- The invocation API stuff has changed. I wrote a little C wrapper
to launch the non-GUI stuff as a daemon. I used to link
it with -L/usr/jdk/lib/i686/green_threads -ljava
Substituting -L/usr/jdk1.2/jre/lib/i386/native_threads -ljava
gets me a *lot* of linker errors about undefined references...
Thanks for all the effort on 1.2.
