Note removal of crossposts. I am not sure whether this is
an appropriate list either, so my apologies.

What we would need is an Architectural Revision Board
like the one SGI is cooperating with for OpenGL. OpenGL
is still proprietary technology, but until recently
(when SGI sold out the Win95/NT licensing authority to
Microsoft) it was still an "open" process, despite the
fact that the source of the OpenGL Sample implementations
is even less available than the SMI JDK one.
Might as well wish for official Linux/FreeBSD etc. support.
Anybody wanting to add an "Request for ARB" to the Bug Parade?
Whatever became of the "Official Java for Linux" request?
If you want an open process, support Japhar and GNU Classpath
and whatever other clean room approaches are under way,
ignore the latest and coolest in API inflation, focus on
core classes where necessary, and use open source packages
whereever possible. Java is as "open" as you make it, not as
open as SMI decides to make it.

P.S.: the "Open Group" native thread JDK port is finished
according to their web site, but not yet released. It says
"lawyers" at http://www.gr.opengroup.org/java/jdk/linux.
