Scrolling frame in Applet.

Hy,

I would like to do the following:

List a couple of things from a postgres database, don't know how many
lines. 
Problem is:
Wanna List them on a canvas of an applet, in a text-like window, that has
sliders (can scroll in it). 

I have only got java 1.1.6 , without swing. 

Pls help.
