I think it's time for me to butt in. I've got 1.1.7a and use jEdit extensively.
So far, it's never crashed, hanged, or otherwise caused problems (other than
that the JDK consumes 20-40% of my CPU even when jEdit is idle, but I guess
that's just the garbage collection).
This is the glibc version of the JDK btw.
As for performance, it's slow, but I'm on a P133 so I guess I deserve it.
