This is because RedHat 6.0 is now glibc 2.1 (rather than glibc 2.0)
and there were some changes that affected the JDK.
We have released JDK 1.1.7 v3 (check your nearest blackdown
mirror site for the archives) which works in glibc 2.0 and 2.1
systems.
