There's a non-optimized all java version that runs under linux
available from sun.  However, it lacks support for many of the
audio and video formats available for the other platforms.  It
ran somewhat on linux the other day when I tried it (not very
extensively).  The .mov sample file played the audio fine, but
the video frames weren't changing.
