After all I've got the problem: it's the routing!

If you enter as root:

                        route add default eth0

on Linux systems the trouble will vanish...
Normally we have a 10.x.x.x network here and therefore use a netmask of
255.0.0.0. But Multicast networks (as used by Jini) should be around
17x.x.x.x.
