Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is Ungur Adrian-Alin and I am a musician interested in
electronic music.

I am writing to you hoping that you could help me. I am not a Java
programmer but I desperatelly need Java running in order to run some
music applications such as "HPKComposer", "jMAX" or "Algaophone".
I have been trying for months to make Java work on my Linux machine but
I have got nothing.
Here is a list of Java versions I have been tested:

jdk1_2pre-v1_tar.bz2
jre1_2pre-v1_tar.bz2
jdk-1_1_7-v1a-glibc-x86.tar.gz
jdk-117-v1a-2_src.rpm
jdk-1_1_7-1a-1glibc_src.rpm

My system is:
Intel Celeron 366 Mhz, 128 Mb RAM, swap memory 58 Mb
Red Hat 6.0 (kernel 2.2.5-15)
KDE 1.1.1pre2-2
XFree86 vendor release number 3330
LibC version: libc.so.6 => libc-2.2.1.so
Loader: ld-linux.so.2 => ld-2.1.1.so
Java-version: Engine: Just-in-time
              Version: 1.0b4
              Java Version: 1.1

Although I have glibc 2.1 installed I want ot tell you that I tried to
run Java under Red Hat 5.2 and glibc 2.0 and it did not work.

Anytime I try to run the "java" executable I get one of the following
error messages (depending on which version is installed):
"can't find libjava.so" (for jre1.2) or "error in loading shared
libraries ./../lib/i386/green_threads/libjava.so:undefined
symbol:_dl_symbol_value" (for jdk1.1.7).

I wish to mention that I made symbolic links in /lib and /usr/lib to
point to libjava.so file.

What could be the problem ? I desperatelly need your help.

Best regards,
Ungur Adrian-Alin
