I have a servlet based application developed on Linux and deployed on
Win NT that uses JAI. As I needed the Windows version anyway I just
grabbed it, picked up the jar files and put them into jre/lib/ext on
my Linux box. It works but is far slower than the Windows version
(pure Java compared to native encoders of course).

I'm not doing something fancy - merely saving user built images as
JPEGs or BMPs to the server's URI space - so I cannot comment on JAI's
capabilities.

But I have the feeling there is a major memory leak - at least in the
native Windows stuff - as the server's memory usage increases steadily
and the JVM throws an occasional OutOfMemoryException every now and then while
users process images.

Bye

        Stefan
