I won't incriminate my source on this, but as I understand it, Sun
has been using an inhouse version of JDK1.2 for *many* months.
It's possible that Sun just gave that away to Inspire for the "right"
price. It wouldn't surprise me if Sun did indeed have a linux version
already. They clearly have the resources and expertise to port and
compile such a version. In any event, that would explain the quick
turnaround on this, and also perhaps why Sun had been so hesitant
to really throw resources and help at the Blackdown team. With their
own inhouse version, they may have been planning a move like this for a while.
While I'm here, I also want to commend the Blackdown team for such great
work, and I'm not convinced that they have been beat out by Sun with regards
to java-linux. Let's see what happens with this whole ordeal.
(But thank goodness Java2 is moving along on linux...it's about time!)
