I missed the beginning of this thread, so I don't know what happened,
but I'm guessing the user is running a bleeding edge Debian system --
I suffered this breakage on upgrade about 2 (3?) weeks ago, sigh...

I patched up the scripts, but then, I upgraded both Java and Debian,
breakage stopped, and haven't looked at it more.  

It had to do with the use of a shell command to get directory location 
info, which broke on Debian upgrade...
