Or a lowercase-y-with-umlaut (char 255)? Is this a known issue? Is it
a Java thing or an X thing? I see it occasionally with the Sun JVM as
well, but can't seem to pin down a specific circumstance which will
always cause it (I am noticing it in NetBeans).
