I can't disagree with a thing you said, but it doesn't look like Sun
has accepted defeat on Windows client-side Java. They've made plenty of
noise about Microsoft's dropping the VM (ancient as it is) from Microsoft
Windows XP installation media, they're pushing XP users to install the
Java Plug-in (see the prominent link on http://java.sun.com), and they're
trying to convince PC retailers to bundle the JRE with their boxes.

Continuing to focus attention on graphics performance may be quixotic,
but it's consistent with everything else they're saying and doing about
Java on Windows workstations. Or am I missing some other explanation
for why they have VolatileImage working on Windows but nowhere else?
