Not all Linux distros name that font the same.  In the file
<java dir>/jre/lib/font.properties, change all occurrences of
"standard symbols l" to "symbol".  The Blackdown JDK even has
a note about this in that file (although there's a typo:
"standards symbols l" should be "standard symbols l").
