Although it was not clear what the maintenance contract is required for ( as quoted below ), that way I read it is that: "If you have other SAP proprietary products ( and therefore have existing maintenance contracts with SAP for those other products ), we will have problems supporting you because you may change some of the code in SAP DB and we do not know what the heck is going wrong". It did not say that you cannot use SAP DB with other SAP products. In other words, you can still use SAP DB with other SAP products, as per GPL ... you will just probably have difficulty with (or loose) support.
