If it makes you feel any better, I have trouble apt-get'ing the package,
following the instructions sent out earlier on this list.

That is, I set sources.list to
deb ftp://ftp.tux.org/java/debian/ sarge non-free
W: Couldn't stat source package list ftp://ftp.tux.org sarge/non-free Packages
(/var/lib/apt/lists/ftp.tux.org_java_debian_dists_sarge_non-free_binary-i386_Packages)
 - stat (2 No such file or directory)
# apt-show-versions -a j2re1.4
j2re1.4 1.4.1-6 install ok installed
No stable version
No testing version
No unstable version
j2re1.4 1.4.1-6 unknown
j2re1.4/unknown uptodate 1.4.1-6

Hmm, despite this, it looks as if dist-upgrade fails but install may
work:

# apt-get -d dist-upgrade
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Calculating Upgrade... Done
The following packages have been kept back:
  j2re1.4
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

# apt-get -d install j2re1.4
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Suggested packages:
  ttf-kochi-gothic ttf-kochi-mincho
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  j2se-common
The following packages will be upgraded:
  j2re1.4
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 22.5MB of archives.
After unpacking 8155kB of additional disk space will be used.

See bug at
http://alioth.debian.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=301058&group_id=30289&atid=410681

Any clues would be great.
