I am assuming that you are running on x86 architecture. Here is a short answer that may be enough for you:
1.) Woody is quite out of date, and the Sarge release is coming soon. Consider upgrading to Sarge. 2.) From Sarge, install the java-package utility, then download your Blackdown 8^) JDK of choice, and use the make-jpkg utility to create a Debian package with which to install the JDK. 3.) Install tomcat4 and tomcat4-webapps, and see if Tomcat starts up and works for you. If not, then edit the JAVA_HOME variable in /etc/default/tomcat4 to point to your newly-installed JDK.
