    Scott McNealy
    Chairman and CEO
    Sun Microsystems, Inc.

     Biography

In just 18 years, Scott McNealy has led Sun Microsystems
the to become the leading global supplier of network computing
solutions, with revenues last year of more than $11.7
billion. McNealy's ideas about computing often predate industry
trends. For more than a decade, he has been advancing
Sun's slogan, The Network Is The ComputerTM -- a succinct
statement of the company's vision of seamless
connectivity.

McNealy's tenacity and willingness to address tough issues
head on have earned him both respect and admiration.
Whether he's testifying before Congress or speaking out in
favor of the U.S. government's antitrust lawsuits, McNealy can
be found fighting for choice. As he often says, "Without
choice, there is no competition. Without competition, there is no
innovation. And without innovation, you are left with very
little."

McNealy graduated from Harvard with a BA in Economics. He
followed that with an MBA from Stanford. Those two
formative years on "the farm" soon spawned a little
startup known as SUN, originally an acronym for the Stanford
                   University Network.

played an instrumental role in developing Java technology as an open
platform. Ms. Sueltz continues to drive the Java platform
forward and is responsible for all Java technology-based and
Solaris operating environment tools, developer products,

person for IBM's extensive Java technology-based marketing
and development activities including the direction of IBM's
strategies for Java technology and XML across IBM's
software, hardware and services businesses. She was instrumental in
directing IBM's strategic alliances with other major

The title of his thesis was "The Algebraic Manipulation of
Constraints". He is currently a VP & Fellow at Sun
Microsystems. He has built satellite data acquisition systems, a
multiprocessor version of UNIX, several compilers, mail
systems and window managers. He has also built a WYSIWYG
text editor, a constraint based drawing editor and a text
editor called `Emacs' for UNIX systems. At Sun his early activity
was as lead engineer of the NeWSTM window system. He did
the original design of the JavaTM programming language and

on the JiniTM distributed computing technology for networking
computer devices using Java technology, and on the Sun
Community Source Licensing (SCSL) model, designed to allow
companies to share their intellectual property in source
form, to facilitate cooperation with customers, partners, educators
                   and researchers.

Previously at Sun, Joy led Sun's technical strategy,
spearheading its open systems philosophy. He designed Sun's Network
File System (NFS), and was a co-designer of the SPARCTM
microprocessor Architecture. In 1991 he did the basic pipeline
design of UltraSparc-I and its multimedia processing
