Title: DB2 Database Administrator
Location: Plymouth, MN
Duration: 9 Months

Description:   
• Provides 24x7 production support for client server systems. Provide DB2
Distributed Database Administration support to numerous systems on AIX
platform. Participate in production support and implementation of databases.
  
Individual will provide database administration for a variety of
mission-critical custom and packaged software applications. Core
responsibilities will include: 
• Design, implement and monitor database functionality to ensure stable
environments
• Perform database administration and management activities in a safe,
recoverable and professional manner that ensures the optimal operation of
all database environments
• Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new and improved
guidelines to ensure compatibility and better service for end-users
• Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems/concerns associated
with database server equipment (hardware and software)
• Identify potential service level problems before they occur and notify
appropriate parties
• Stay abreast of the most current release of DB2 UDB, including
compatibility issues with operating systems, third party software and
utilities
• Test and evaluate new products as relevant
• Log support cases as necessary and effectively work with IBM. 
• Maintain up-to-date plans for disaster recovery and fail over capabilities
and test as required
• Perform capacity monitoring and short and long-term capacity planning in
collaboration with development resources, system administrators and system
architects
• Propose solutions, identify tools, and generate procedures to ensure an
efficient, consistent repeatable environment
• Use and deploy RDBMS software, data management tools and utilities, data
warehouse and replication tools
• Maintain security according to best practices and generate security
solutions that balance auditor requirements with user requirements
• Participate in 24x7 on call rotation 
  
Candidate will possess: 
• 5 + years supporting UDB databases in high availability environments
• Demonstrated experience in disaster recovery planning and testing
• Thorough knowledge of UNIX platforms (AIX ideal)
• Unix administration knowledge with DB2 background (Red Hat z/xlinux, AIX)
• Understanding of systems development processes and business processes
• Proven analytic skills and strong judgment
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with team/others and share knowledge to ensure
team success
• Ability to work through issues with IBM technical support
• Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning
• Experience with enterprise job scheduling tools (AutoSys a plus)
• Experience with DPF
• Experience with MQ-Replication
• Demonstrated diagnostic skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
