*Position:* Teradata with Oracle DBA *Location*: Durham, NC *Duration:* 1 year+ * * * * *Job Description* Job Purpose Responsible for the technical strategy, solutions architecture, and systems administration for database management systems across multiple platforms. Major Job Functions/Components • Use a logical database model and application specifications to create/analyze an efficient physical database design. • Implement database backup and recovery strategy based on data volatility and application availability requirements which will protect the business from unexpected hardware and software failures. • Perform capacity planning, workload modeling and prediction; provide business applications with enough resources for their short-term and long-term growth. • Establish / recommend technical database administration standards, archiving strategy and security policies standards to ensure databases are compliant and optimized • Ensure the database management system environment is updated with current stable versions of software products; maintain currency with operating system and support software; plan and implement major software upgrades; ensure change management procedures and methodologies are implemented and followed. • Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of DBA tools, and new DBMS technologies • Technical lead in designing systems with capabilities to provide high availability solutions • Work with Development, and Implementation teams to design, develop, and deploy database solutions. • Performance engineering - support performance testing; identify tuning and design changes to gain performance. • Pro-actively ensures database systems are designed and maintained at the highest level of support; plan/set procedures; provide reliable and secure systems for business applications *Qualifications* Hiring Requirements/Qualifications Education/Experience • Bachelor or technical degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related discipline is required. • Minimum of 7 years hands-on experience analyzing/developing SQL code, installing, configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting, databases in one or more DBMS (IMS, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, and Teradata) is required. • If no degree, 9 years of database experience in a mainframe or distributed environment Professional Certification Hiring Preferences Additional Education/Experience Preferences • Solid understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts. • Experience in writing database related queries, developing and implementing stored procedures • Ability to use software tools, languages, scripts and shells required for effective support of the database enterprise. • Full knowledge of SQL including programming and ways to optimize SQL code. • Proficiency in multiple GULs and middleware tools. • Expert in two database platform and efficient in a third database platform (Oracle, UDB/DB2-AIX, UDB/DB2-zOS, SQL-Server, IMS, Teradata and/or DB2-iSeries) with solid knowledge of RDBMS-specific tool and utility knowledge and experience in such areas as monitoring, database migration, DDL management and replication • Experience with Oracle RMAN, Oracle DataGuard, Veritas and Net Backup a plus Knowledge of Veritas volume manager, Veritas Cluster Server and SAN • Must have a strong understanding of data warehouse concepts Soft Skills/Abilities • Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing technology and apply it to business needs. • Experience in effectively managing projects in a cross-functional environment is highly desired. • Effective interpersonal and communication skills. • Proven leadership skills. • Ability to write proposals and technical documents. • Ability to make presentations to diverse types of audiences (e.g. management, users, vendors, technical staff). • Ability to solve problems quickly and thoroughly. • Proven ability to establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in the IT group’s knowledge of and concern for, users’ business needs Professional Certification • Database certification is a plus. *Best Regards,* *Vishal* *516-499-3738-D* *815-600-8657-Fax* *vis...@smartcaliber.com* <vis...@smartcaliber.com> www.smartcaliber.com *Truth Lies in Heart* -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Java Tech Group" group.
