We've removed the userguide a long time ago. We have a set of example files under lucene-demo, e.g. here https://lucene.apache.org/core/6_3_0/demo/src-html/org/apache/lucene/demo/facet/ .
Also, you can read some blog posts, start here: http://shaierera.blogspot.com/2012/11/lucene-facets-part-1.html and then http://shaierera.blogspot.com/2012/11/lucene-facets-part-2.html, though the code examples may be outdated.
