I believe that the servers carrying the interest lists are already
set up with a spam reduction mechanism. Unfortunately, they upgraded
the servers to Sendmail 8.9 and the brilliant folks at Sendmail.org
thought that nobody really cared what the "Unix From" headers were and
decided that they would "helpfully" rewrite them at their whim with
no way to turn off the feature. The result? Mailing list software
is now unable to accurately filter email based upon who it came from.

Fortunately, there are workarounds which essentially boil down to
following the model that the Sendmail.org people believe you should
be using even though it doesn't match the practices that many mailing
list administrators have become accustomed to.

I've sent mail to the mail team at mail.java.sun.com informing them
of the workaround, but they don't seem to have worked on it yet.
