This question isn't really about the Java2D API, but anyway...

My development environment consists of XEmacs for editing, and GNU Make for building. 
My makefiles
are set up for cross-platform development on both NT and Solaris. On NT, I use the 
"make" command for
GNU Make that comes with the cygwin toolkit that you can get from cygnus solutions at 
www.cygnus.com.
