As I recall, garbage collection isn't done
immediately--at least, not until the collector
realizes there are no more references to the strings
to be deleted--so you may have to call the garbage
collector manually. Also, putting your delete and add
methods in separate functions may help the collector
recognize the strings you intend to delete more
quickly, if you haven't done so already.
