Even while using jdk1.1x you can use swing. It is available as a separate
(additional) package.
It is available on www.javasoft.com - see products-swing
It is a *.jar file that can be just added to the classpath and then you are
fully swing compatible.
But you have to expect some bugs that might not be fixed there directly.
