Hi, I am looking at using Java for rendering to an off-screen buffer TYPE_IMAGE_BUFFER (java.awt.GraphicsDevice).
The application will be running on an OS/390 Server with no display capabilities. Looking at the FAQ (http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/2D/forDevelopers/java2dfaq.html) implies that this is possible with version 1.4. However the question "How does Java 2D search for fonts?" implies that an XServer may be required for reading and possibly rendering the font. Is there any way of rendering text without this limitation? Are there any other possible problems with rendering to an off-screen buffer, with no display capabilities?
