Andrew,
We did it for out app. In fact we made the cursor disappear for our
touchscreen app by using a 1 pixel transparent GIF image.
Here is some code to get you going.

Cursor c = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createCustomCursor(cursorImage,
new Point(hotpoint_X, hotpoint_Y));
yourFrame.setCursor(c);
