Well a GIF image could be treated in that way too I imagine, but PNG I am fairly sure can't be in Level 2 as its too new. What I in fact meant that if you are printing a screen (perhaps your JPanel) which happens to contain images, then there's no way for us to know that the original image was a JPEG because its just not available any more. > >OK ! Its not a raster dump if that's what you mean - as long as you use Component.printAll and *NOT* paint. The output contains moveto , lineto operators etc I don't have a potted example but I think there is stuff on the java.sun.com website.
