Well, one day I was discussing with a friend about art movies and he told me he likes very much black&white movies. And he would like to have a black&white UI. Knowing the RepaintManager I told him that this is a matter of seconds.
But it seems you lose the performance benefits brought by volatile images. The initial question I've asked myself was: "Is there a possibility to have a grayscale volatile image ?" :) It would be nice to have a more flexibile volatile image because you could apply some nice effects to the UI. It seems that volatile images have a lot less flexibility than buffered images and that is by their nature.
