Isn't OpenEXR just an image file format? There is no "JPEG API" or "PNG API" in Java2D - that doesn't really make sense.
And HDRI is just techniques to get wider range of exposure on images. Are you looking for an API that will take a series of images with different exposures and create an HDR image? Why would that be a part of Java2D? Sounds like it is much better suited to be part of JAI.
