John,

I've also had some problems running the DirectX version of Java 3D on our
Win98 machine (Box objects were not rendered correctly, and occasional "no
render device" errors). I ended up uninstalling the DirectX Java 3D files
and reinstalling the OpenGL version (which works fine). You might also want
to try disabling hardware acceleration for DirectX, and see whether you have
a driver problem with your card.

Best,

Subject: [java3d] Problems running on Win95

I have installed:
        jdk1.2
        directx
        java3d

When I try to run the HelloUniverse demo program using the appletviewer,
I get:

java.lang.RuntimeException: No pallette object attached to this surface.
                at javax.media.j3d.Canvas3D.createContext(Native Method).
                at javax.media.j3d.Renderer.run(Compiled Code).

Any ideas as to what error, I made in my setup.

        I have JDK1.2 installed in by D: disk/partition.
