have a look at how Text2D works... i adapted that class to a Mask2D class,
which does the same, except it doesn't draw text, but an image i passed...
what you get is good for a static transparent dashboard which you could add
to the root node of your branchgroup (either z-buffer disabled or move it
all the way to the front)...
if you want to update the display you would run out of memeory because of
current texture constraints, but you could use small raster objects on-top
of your dashboard (mask2d) which you can update much easier, and minimize
the risk of out-of-memory errors...
p.s. if you are not planning to use directX than place mask and rasters in
the view branchgroup where they are better of - but directX doesn't show
them there, so for this platform you will need to put it in your root node
and move them all the way to the front (z-buffer disabling doesn't seem to
work under directX either)
