I describe how to use Java's drag-and-drop (DnD) package with Java 3D
in my book on 3D UI techniques (titled "3D User Interfaces with Java
3D"). It should be out in January. It includes an example of how to
drag objects between Java 3D displays and Swing components, in both
directions. It requires several supporting pieces (including
continuous mouse-over detection), and the Java DnD model is not the
simplest thing to explain by email.
