Real Programmers (tm) debug only code made from other not Real Programmers.
Real Programmers (tm) not debug, not make bugs.

IMHO the best debugger for Java 2 is "VisualAge for java" one.
But this IDE not support external java SDK/VM (Sun SDK too!!), and not
support Java3D. If you want debug Java 2 (1.2.0) is very comfortable and
powerful.
For the others you can try:
 - Forte (not bad)
 - Kawa (I haven't seen in action with java3D, but I found it powerful
enough)
 - Visual cafe (on hint of a my dear friend)
