I always appreciate the presence of some sun people (such as Mr. Hood)

By the way, this utility could be found under:
com.sun.j3d.utils.geometry.Stripifier
In summary, i think one of the best choices would be Geometry Strip arrays
with Stripifier utility for optimization. I'll use it and let you know
folks.
