Chris, i do VERY doubt that Java3D supports such things as
markers (and can only wonder how u can say to Java3D which segment to
play). I myself used separate short wavs (from 2k up to 10k) for each
event.

As to formats, as far as i know only au and wav, not anything advanced
(such as MPEG3 compression). As i could figure out, the PCM wav
format (at least it is called so in Windows SoundRecorder) Java3D
takes 4 sure. As to the other wav formats, DO doubt. The most
frustrating thing is that Java3D 'kills' any mid files played by Java
basic classes (eg, by Applet) (the explanation is that Canvas3D takes
all the resources and processor time). At least it was so with
Java3D 1.1.2 version. I wonder if anyone tried to play mid files with
Java3D 1.2? If so, let me know the results, please. And btw, for most
sound effects mid format is what the doctor ordered - they take very
little space. And in fact 4 real-time applications it is not very
important to have sound spacial rendering, at least not when u can
get extra performance instead. So, inability to play mid files
when Canvas3D rendering is running is quite a considerable drawback of
this library.

Have a nice day,
vladimir
