Yes, I forgot to mention them, Lightwave, Maya, and Softimage. All of these
developers will be in attendance at Siggraph 2000 I believe. If you are
really serious about 3D Modeling, I suggest attending at least once. I
learned a lot just by attending the exhibition! A lot of the leading 3D
animators are there. Not to mention Sun Microsystems usually comes to
present Java 3D.

As far as I know, Nichimen Graphics' Mirai is supposed to be one of
the most
powerful modelers. Check it out. I am not sure if it can directly
export to
Java3D scenes, but it can definitely export to VRML file formats,
which can be
easily imported in Java3D.
