Yeah, the console is only available in IE for versions 5 -> up. Any versions
before that does not include the java console. You may want to consider the
java plugin since it comes with a console.

yes there is a java console in IE, there even is a log file. you can
enable
both under ie's advanced options, section "java". you have to
restart IE for
it to work. afterwards, you can open the console from the "view"
menu, and
you will find the log file somewhere under the c:\windows folder (i
think it
is called "javalog.txt").
