Folks,

This is a little informal update on why things are looking a bit strange
wrt getting the "J3D FAQ Weely Posting" coming through to the list. At
the moment it looks far from regularly weekly posts!

The reasons for this has to do with the FAQ fighting Sun's listserv
software. Unfortunately listserv is too smart for its own good. What it
does is archive all of the messages for about the past month (I've
determined it is at least 3 weeks, so I assume they've just gone for
round figures) and then does a comparison of the message to see if you
have sent that same message anytime within the given window. If you
have, it tosses it back at you.

The upshot of this rather peculiar behaviour is that if we don't make
any changes to the FAQ for that week the listserv rejects our posting.
Considering we just use a cron job to dump a text file at the listserv
this has become a problem. I'm going to try doing some hacking to make
it appear like the message has changed (say have a date line that gets
changed on the weekly basis so that the mail appears different).

Unfortunately working out these things is a slow process because I can
only make one change per week. I could do it much sooner but I don't
think you would all liked to be spammed with the FAQ weekly posting 30
or 40 times in one day...
An alternative is that Sun turns off this bloody annoying "feature" but
I think that has about the same chance as hell freezing over :(

Please bear with us as we work out some sort of hack around this
problem.

"Look through the lens, and the light breaks down into many lights.
Turn it or move it, and a new set of arrangements appears... is it
a single light or many lights, lights that one must know how to
distinguish, recognise and appreciate? Is it one light with many
frames or one frame for many lights?" -Subcomandante Marcos
