I did the same thing a couple of days ago. Started with a Windows 2000
machine which never had any version of Java or Java 3D installed.

Durring the installation of Java 3D, the only thing I changed was
the "Destination Folder" from the default "C:\jdk1.2.2" to be "C:\jdk1.3".

The installation went just fine for me. I only had to go into the
Java console to set the "Java Run Time Environment" to
"C:\jdk1.3" After that, it all worked just fine. No problem.

You wrote that "...default which was c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.2".
As mentioned above, that's not the default I saw. I wonder why? I took
screen snap shots of the installation process to put on my web page
under "Here's how to install Java and Java 3D." I just looked at these
images to make sure I saw the default for Java 3D as "c:\jdk1.2.2\". So I
know
that's what I saw.

Subject: [JAVA3D] j3d and jdk1.3

Last week I put jdk1.3 and java3d on a new computer running windows
2000. I had a difficult time getting them to run together on though. I
kept getting the error
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
I searched the archives and found a few other people that had encountered
this problem. Well, I have now solved this on my Machine this is how I
did it.

Under windows 2000

I installed jdk1.3 directly under c: where it goes by default.
I then istalled java3d into c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3
instead of the default which was c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.2
I then copied the 4 jar files j3daudio, j3dcore, j3dutils, and vecmath
from c:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.3
into c:\jdk1.3\jre\lib\ext and c:\jdk1.3\lib\ext
maybe you don't need to copy it into both of those but that is how I
finally got it to work.

Hope that helps if anyone else has been having my problem.
