Sofar Ive tried several of the linux free IDE's, most of them written in
Java
and the conclusion for me is that these IDE's work slowly and cause a lot of
things to be invisible for the developer...(something I don't like...)
I decided to use JDE (the emacs IDE for Java) and this works pretty well...
fast, and evident.... however I have to say that I already had quite some
expierence
with emacs and that really is an advantage.
Summarizing, Ive baselined my development environment on linux as
follows...:
- RedHat 6.2 (glibc-2.1.3)
- Blackdown's JDK-1.2.2-FCS...
- Blackdown's java_3d1_2-FCS....
- Emacs JDE from Paul kinnucan
And sofar sogood.... but I have to say, this environment has been selected
by reading a lot, NOT by hands-on expiriencing it....

Subject: Re: [JAVA3D] 3D Development environment for Linux
i am doing a benchmarking test to determine the awnser to this question. i
am testing Sun's jdk1.3 beta, blackdowns jdk1.3 and ibm's jdk1.3 and the
java3d1.2 extension from blackdown. so far ibm's jdk is winning but there
are problems with the JIT enabled. i think for compatibility i would use
Sun's jdk1.3 and java3d1.2 from blackdown since Sun's jdk1.3 and the
blackdown build are the same thing except Sun's comes with the HotSpot
JRE....
