I thought about this, however if any part of the model happens to be the
same color as the background, those areas will be make transparent too. Is
there no way to set the background to be transparent?

Anti-Aliasing aside, you could take the image inside Java and process
it. Essentially take every pixel that is a specific color (your
background color) and make those pixels transparent. (I even have some
code lost somewhere that does that)
