Netscape 6 Preview Release 3 is now available from Netscape for WIN/NT, Linux and mac (PowerPC) at http://home.netscape.com/download. It comes bundled with Java2, optionally. The Java is version 1.3.0_01, which is asserted to be a beta version of 1.3.0, in the release notes http://home.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/ns6/relnotes/pb6-3.html Installation of the bundled Java does not hose previously installed JRE, as did earlier previews. Installing Java3D Runtime in C:/Program Files/JavaSoft/JRE/1.3.0_01 (on my notebook IBM TP Win98) allowed plugin-free browsing of Java3D applets! Blessed relief!. I tried Dan Selman's benchmark at www.tornadolabs.com and the VolRendView demos at http://ldorman.home.mindspring.com/VRB and everything worked. Netscape 6 is pretty usable, at least for browsing. I have not experimented to see which of the html from the htmlconverter is used by NS6. (EMBED. OBJECT, or APPLET). LeRoy M.
