----------------- Original Bug Report-------------------

category : java
subcategory : other
release : 1.3
type : rfe
synopsis : Java3D: setting the point of zero parallax for steroscopic
pictures
description : java version "1.3.0"
Java (TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot (TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)

The stereoscopic appearence of the scenery depends where the point of
zero
parallax occurs (objects in front of it will appear in front of screen,
objects
behind will appear behind the screen).
In reality the eyes are not looking parrallel but focus to a certain
point =
convergence. This point is identical with the point of zero parallax.

In computers there are 2 possibilities to get to a point of zero
parallax:
1) imitate the convergence of the eyes, i.e. the viewing directions of
the left
and right eyes are not parallel but hit in a focus point.

2) left and right eye viewing directions are parallel. But the images of
the
right and left eyes are shifted to "construct" a center of zero
parallax.

I request the possibility to specify the center of zero parallax either
by
setting a focus point or by the possibility to shift the images,
depending how
the left and right eye views are implemented in Java3D in class Canvas3D
or
class View.

This is needed when producing images for the above - below stereo format
used in
Stereographics stereo devices.
workaround : Use two camera graphs with the viewpoints have eye distance
and set viewing
direction manually to get a focus point. But Left and right eye views
which are
supported with Java3D cannot be used.
