We've tested a Matrox G400 in several systems and we found it to be very
touchy. Performance is good (not as good as GeForce but better than
TNT2). We had a very high regard for Matrox until using the G400. But as
far as we can tell it's unreliable hardware. It very much depends on
the other hardware in the system as to how stable it will run (we tested
it on a range of hardware from what would be considered "obsolete" now
to good high end modern equipment).
We found no problems with the graphics quality of it's output though. It
runs Java 3D beautifully (when it doesn't crash).
